The Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC (ErP directive) is a framework directive that specifies and mandates ecodesign requirements for energy-related products sold and used in the EU region.
On October 1, 2019, the European Commission passed EU2019/1781, amending and replacing (EC) No.640/2009, and the new regulation has been enforced since July 1, 2021.

Products not subject to the regulation (examples)
  • Submerged motors
  • Motors that are embedded into machinery (e.g., pump, fan, compressor, gearbox) and cannot be separated (a unit test of the motor is impossible)
  • Special environment motors (used 4,000 m above sea level, at an ambient temperature exceeding 60˚C, at an ambient temperature below -30˚C [or below 0˚C in the case of a water-cooled motor], in an explosive atmosphere, etc.)
  • Motors equipped with a variable-speed drive system
