Recent Market Needs and Technical Trends of Electric Motors
Keiji Katano
Fuji Electric brought out a new model of all the motor series as "excellent power motors" with the essence of motor technology cultivated for many years. In addition, we expanded the series, reduced noise of application devices, and completed a model change over the whole series. This special edition for motors gives its full picture.
The wide use of computers caused innovations in production control technology as well as design analysis and manufacturing technology. These technical trends are also described.
New Series Three-Phase Induction Motors, "Excellent Power Motors"
Nobuo Ando, Eiichi Handa, Kazuhiko Kannan
Fuji Electric made a full model change of standard 3-phase induction motors that are widely used for industrial machinery, and put them on the market by the pet name "excellent power motors." To meet the market demands for low noise, small size, light weight and high performance, we reduced noise by 2 to 5 dB, improved characteristics, increased the use of steel plate frames, adopted plastic fans, and also introduced new processes such as automatic core plate lamination and non-turning of rotors into the series.
New R90 Series Three-Phase Induction Motors, "Excellent Power Motors"
Akira Fujii, Masanao Morimoto, Tsutomu Nanbu
To meet market needs for energy saving, maintenance reduction and high reliability, Fuji Electric has developed and started to sell a new medium totally-enclosed fan-cooled induction motors, R90 series. They were improved in cooling by the use of internal air circulating ribs, reduced size and weight, and improved in efficiency and reliability by the increase of the aluminum cage rotor range. The development of low-noise fans and improvements of bearing construction made them easier to use. This paper gives an outline of technical development and production technology laying stress on the cooling system.
Ring Blowers
Yuzo Nakahara, Thoru Okamura, Mikio Takahashi
Ring blowers have intermediate characteristics that have higher air pressure than turboblowers and larger airflow than vane blowers. They are so small and sturdy that they are used widely for industrial machinery that uses air. This paper describes the principle, construction and feature of Ring blowers, the standard and low-noise series containing "excellent power motors," and their uses and ways of using. Also it introduces the products for general use and those for special use.
Coolant Pumps
Chishiro Furukawa, Shigeaki Ohta, Isao Nakaji
The unmanned operation of mashine tools has come into wide use with the use of high-speed, heavy cutting and the improvement and automation of their functions. The urgent problems involved are to cool cutting tools and to discharge chips. These are done by fluid discharged by coolant pumps; the market strongly demands high-pressure pumps for cooling and washing away chips. To cope with the situation, Fuji Electric developed a series of pressure-type pumps, and also series of industrial-use pumps for coolers and temperature regulators. This paper introduces their functions, performances, specifications and features.
Geared Motors
Masataka Ojika, Toshio Iwasaki
Geared motors require low noise and small size with the trend of machinery toward high performance and multifunction. Fuji Electric has developed a series of industrial low-noise geared motors, and also developed flat geared motors for use in particularly space-saving conditions, which has L-shaped arrangement of the motor and reduction gear to shorten the axial length. This paper gives an outline of the technical points for reducing noise and size, and the flat geared motors.
Brake Motors
Mitsuharu Matsumura, Yoshinobu Takeuchi
Brake motors with brake, stop and hold functions are used widely for driving industrial machinery. For the purpose of improving environment on working site, measures against asbestos powder from their breakes and noise reduction were strongly required recently. To meet the requirements, Fuji Electric used non-asbestos material for brake disks and produced low-noise motors and brakes. Also we developed a high braking torque series to meet high-frequency, quick stop required by high-speed machines. This paper gives an outline of their specifications and features.
RV Motors for Positioning
Eiichi Tomii, Manabu Mohara
In the field of factory automation, rapid material handling and precise positioning are required increasingly. As for positioning methods, there are a servo system for precise positioning and a system with a limit switch and a brake motor combined. The RV motor aims at an intermediate level between them. Having a built-in hollow-shaft encoder in the brake motor, a RV motor is accelerated or decelerated by a general-use inverter and can be positioned by a position counter. This paper gives an outline of its specifications and features.
Outer-Rotor Fans
Sueo Kaneshiro, Akihiko Ohnishi
Pressure fans are used for air circulation in heat exchangers, and require space saving, low noise and high performance. The outer-rotor fan has a thin construction with greatly shortened axial length and facilitates compact design of equipment. This paper describes the construction and characteristics of the fan, and particularly distinctive fans for low temperature, for high temperature and for information processing devices. Technical points for noise reduction is referred to in the medium-pressure low-noise type.
Inverter Drive of Standard Motors
Yoshio Itoh, Chiaki Moriguchi
Variable-speed operation of induction motors increases for reasons of labor and energy saving and easy maintenance. When an induction motor, for example, totally enclosed type, is driven by an inverter, it must be noted that thermally allowable continuous torque at rated speed is approx. 85%of rated torque, and at 10% speed, approx. 50%. Also effects on surroundings restrict cooling noise, and the bearing and rotor strength limits allowable maximum speed. This paper describes the operation characteristics and precautions in the inverter drive of motors and introduces a new series of explosionproof motors for inverter drive.
High-Speed Motors
Koichi Yasui, Yasuhiko Shibata, Hideyuki Sue
Demands for high-speed motors have increased in various industries recently. They use high-speed or superhigh-speed motors to save labor, maintenance and energy in general industries, to increase productivity and precision in the machining equipment industry, and to raise analysis capacity in the field of biotechnology.
Fuji Electric standardized high-speed motors meeting the market demands and have also supplied specialty products to different uses. This paper gives an outline of their specifications, performances and features.
Permosyn Motors
Yoshihiro Suzuki, Soichi Kosaka, Mikiya Ogata
The permosyn motor is a synchronous motor with permanent magnet excitation and is used mainly in the spinning process in synthetic fiber machinery. Taking the permosyn motor for roll heaters in the stretching process as a typical example, this paper describes the thermal protection of bearings and the simulation analysis of the fundamental frequency corresponding to large rolls. It introduces a high-precision spindle motor for machine tools as an example of special application which makes good use of less heat in the rotor and no speed change against load variation.
Specific-Purpose Small Motors
Masakatsu Kawaradani, Koichi Matsuda, Masaaki Miyazaki
Market needs for small motors have become diversified and sophisticated recently. Under the circumstances, Fuji electric has supplied a lot of various special small motors for household appliances and industrial uses.
This paper gives an outline of our key products: fan motors with a pressing construction (SL series), spacesaving slim motors, and marine-container fan motors used in special environment.
Spindle Motors for Hard Disk Drive and its Application
Takaaki Okada, Tatsufumi Fujii
Hard disk drive (HDD) has rapidly come into wide use as the core of computer external memory since it was put on the market.
Fuji Electric started the production of 3.5-inch HDD spindle motors in 1983. As its application, we proceed with the production of laser-beam printer motors and high-speed laser scanner motors for copiers and the development of photomagnetic disk spindle motors.
This paper introduces an outline of the market and these products.
Frequency Analysis and Sensorless Driving Technology for Hard Disk Drive Spindle Motors
Takao Mizoguchi, Akira Oshitani, Eiichi Yonezawa
As hard disk drive was reduced size and increased density, the spindle motor was required to solve certain new problems. Among them, NRRO reduction and sensorless design were particularly important, and Fuji Electric has made efforts in their technical settlement. This paper introduces vibration analysis technology for NRRO control of spindle motor and drive circuit technology for sensorless motor.
CIM for an Electric Motor Factory
Hiroaki Tsuri, Naoki Itaya
Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) for an electric motor factory is a system to deal with multikind, small-lot, and limited-time production aiming at a user-friendly and flexible manufacturer. Its network links the special agents, sales departments, head office and factory in an online conversational mode in real time. The subsystems are connected organically and the host computer and local computers are hierachically organized. This paper introduces an actually built up system.
