Concept of Data Processing System Development
Nobuyoshi Ishii, Hiraki Kawakami, Hiroaki Ikuta
Together with the internationalization of Japanese economy and people's valuation on information, enterprises either in manufacturing fields or in general industries have invested in information processing with computerized networks and distributed systems. Means of system integration to satisfy these needs are also widely noticed. To cope with the situation, Fuji Electric has introduced FA personal computers and engineering work stations. The paper describes its idea on future product development, such as measures for open architecture for the future and integration of software development environment.
Fuji Electric's Data Processing Systems
Yukinori Saito
Fuji Electric has been rated highly in the field of information processing systems starting from computer application in plant/process control upto FA computer systems and computer/controller-integrated information processing systems. The company has put on the market new FA personal computers and ?stations, which makes it possible to structure more distinctive and flexible automation systems for information processing.
This paper describes the development, organization, and configuration examples of Fuji Electric's information processing systems.
FA Personal Computer FMR-50/70FA
Masatoshi Kinoshita, Sumio Uchiyama
This paper introduces a newly developed FA personal computer developed on the basis of the FM-R series by adding various functions required in FA-applied shops. One of the features is the adoption of OS2*, a next generation OS for 32-bit personal computers, enabling easy real-time processing on a personal-computer level. It is expected that FA system structuring can be brought on a new stage by combining the abundant OA functions and a real-time processing function and by distributing systems really through network interconnection.

FA Personal Computer Applications in FA systems
Masaji Kawata, Yoshinori Suizu, Yoshikatsu Takahashi
While FA systems are increasingly introduced into various enterprises, system structuring with cheap, advanced-function, and highly reliable personal computers has recently been noticed to meet severe management situation or diversified market needs.
Fuji Electric has developed a new high-performance 32-bit FA personal computer as a system component for systems ranging from small-and medium-scale FA to total FA. This paper describes its application to each level of FA systems, the concept of system structuring, and system examples suitable for its application.
FA Personal Computer Applications in PA Systems
Toshio Matsuda, Jun'ichi Terui, Masaharu Goto
This paper describes the configuration and functions of small-scale instrumentation systems based on the new FA personal computer, and actual applications as well. Process input acquisition and programmable controller interconnection are realized with adapters installed in the extension slots of the FA personal computer.
Four application systems based on the above configuration are presented: (1) a film thickness control system, (2) an automated system for a shochu distillation plant, (3) a control and management system for cold storage equipment, and (4) a data logger for a refuse incineration plant.
FA Personal Computer Application in Social Systems
Toshio Yamanishi, Toshio Okada, Hirotsune Kimura
Increase in investment for the basis of the affluent society and creation of social systems for the next generation have been urged and are partially being realized.
The social systems are structured by combining advanced technology and existing technology, and among information-oriented social systems, computer application technology has been regarded as most important.
This paper outlines the social system from a viewpoint of information processing technology application, citing a personal-computer applied system as an example.
FA Personal Computer Application in Document and Image Processing
Yasuo Hongo, Kazuo Aoki, Yu Maruko
As personal computers make progress in performance, they are used in various ways such as calculation and word processing in offices. Fuji Electric has developed a Japanese document reader XP-50S on the basis of pattern recognition technology in the FA field which can quickly and simply convert growing office documents into a data base suitable for computer processing.
The paper describes an outline of the Japanese document reader and related document management system. It also refers to future tasks in document and image processing in offices.
MS-DOS* Application to Real-Time Systems
Michio Ibaraki, Toshiyuki Sasatani, Kiyoshi Mori
There have been many user's demands for structuring PA/FA systems by connecting the MICREX-F series of good repute and general-purpose personal computers with abundant user-friendly applications using P-links.
This paper describes the newly developed P-link connection system for the general-purpose personal computer FMR series citing its application example.

Personal-Computer-Based CAD/CAM for PCB manufacture
Tadamasa Niimi
As technical progress brought the performance improvement and cost reduction of personal computer hardware and software, personal computers have come in wide use. Fuji Electric's Tokyo factory first introduced large-computer-based CAD; however, it has switched over to engineering work stations and personal computers for the last few years.
This paper describes the present status of Tokyo factory's CAD/CAM based on personal computers within the scope of PCB manufacture in regard to the design environment, production design environment, artwork arranging system, and production management system.
UNIX* Workstation "Σstation 230" and its Application
Masakiyo Oshiba, Ken'ichi Kurotani
Integrated information management systems typically represented by CIM are indispensable for production systems to overcome the recent severe economical situation. Fuji Electric had offered minicomputers A-series as computers capable of satisfying these requirements. And it has developed a UNIX workstation Σstation230 as a workstation type of the A-series to reinforce the line-up and to make structuring distributed processing easy. The paper introduces an outline of the workstation and its application.
*OS developed by AT&T Bell Laboratories.
Automatic Warehouse Management System for a Lubricant Prant
Toshio Tao, Hiroyuki Kurabayashi, Motohiko Hayashi
Flexible production requires timely processing of products and component materials. For this, a material handling system of high total efficiency should be applied. The example is the largest-scale automatic warehouse for dangerous things so far allowed by the Fire Services Act. The paper mainly describes an outline of warehouse management and its features out of production management and warehouse management systems.
Control-Function-Integrated Type Digital Controllers for Hydraulic Power Stations
Tetsuo Saitoh
Owing to the progress of programmable controllers, controllers for hydraulic power stations have come to change into "control-function-integrated type digital controllers" including primary and secondary regulating functions in addition to the conventional sequence control function. This paper introduces the latest digital controller concentrating on an outline of the controller delivered to Meguribuchi Power Station of Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. being in commercial operation from June, 1988, and its site test result.
