Although it is said we are now under the IT depression, investment in information management by enterprises maintains high growth because they stake their survival on the competitive strategy. Fuji Electric has created new values that aim at the overall optimum in business management, focusing on the manufacturing industry, such as processing, assembly, electronics, and fine machining, and the distribution service industry, such as physical distribution, circulation, and foods. This paper describes the framework and features of Fuji Electric's solutions to business information management.

This paper describes the present status of physical distribution, the latest technical trend, and the warehouse management system (WMS) essential to Fuji Electric's logistics strategy, focusing on its features and a method of introducing it.

The world faces environmental and energy saving problems and each enterprise is required to take effective measures, including reduction in energy consumption. Fuji Electric in the early stages developed business related to environment and reduction in energy consumption. We have positively fused conventional technology with new one and have proposed various solutions to efficient utilization of overall energy ranging from energy measurement to environmental preparation for integrated management, the introduction of clean energy supply equipment, and the operation of utilities. This paper introduces Fuji Electric's solutions to energy management, citing an example of introduction.

Regarding the rationalization of manufacturing systems and the unification of information to be carried out in the flow of designing, procurement, manufacturing, inspection, and shipping by the designing and manufacturing sections, this paper describes an outline of Fuji Electric's solutions to manufacturing distribution.


Solutions to Hygienic Management in the Food Industry

Recently, problems of microbial contamination have increased in many fields such as foods, drinking water, and sewage. Because the conventional method that requires cultivation takes more than 24 hours for inspection, a simple and speedy measuring method has been desired. Fuji Electric is developing a viable cell sensor (a tentative name) in which viable cells are given fluorescent labeling by enzymatic activity and the number of cells measured by the automatic apparatus within one hour. This paper describes the verification result of the practicability of the viable cell sensor in comparison with the conventional method. It also describes various solutions supposed to be brought by utilizing the viable cell sensor, such as reduction in stocks, next-generation hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP), and a reused water management system.


Mobile Solutions Supporting Portal Site Construction

With the rapid diffusion of mobile devices typically represented by portable telephones, the environment of wireless networks has more and more improved. Also the broadband Internet network has advanced in parallel and its application to business is actively studied. This paper describes a general idea of mobile solution mounting in constructing a business information portal site capable of making a connection with the existing basic systems, and also, examples of mobile application to Fuji Electric's various solutions for offices, workshops, and autonomies.


Fuji Electric Group's IT Strategy

This paper describes "the Guideline for planning the medium-term IT strategy and the method of developing the IT medium-term scheme" to support Fuji Electric's medium-term management vision. From among the important themes of the IT medium-term scheme that constitute Fuji Electric's business platform, brief descriptions are given to the following: customer relationship management, business management, the integrated back office, supply chain management, the order receiving and production ordering system, the expansion of the group network, and software property control. The internal IT system, an important tool for management and business operation, can satisfactorily be utilized for customer's similar needs.
