Fuji Electric Enters Photovoltaic Power Generation Business — Undertaking Construction of a Mega Solar Power Generation Plant on its Factory Site —

Tokyo, December 03, 2012 - Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (TSE:6504) announced today that it would start a photovoltaic power generation business with the construction of a mega solar power generation plant on the grounds of one of its factories.

1. Objective

Since Japan launched a feed-in tariff fixed purchase price system for renewable energy sources in July of this year, demand for solar power and other renewable energies has risen rapidly in the country. Fuji Electric has set a management policy of expanding its energy-related businesses, and accordingly, has expanded its business in the mega solar power generation market, particularly with high-efficiency power electronics equipment such as power conditioners. Now Fuji Electric has decided to enter a photovoltaic power generation business.

Fuji Electric is utilizing its latest power electronics products to construct a new mega solar power generation plant. With a view to improving its technological capabilities, the Company will make use of the facility to assess the technological basis and quality of its products and verify its equipment installation and construction techniques. Through this business, Fuji Electric will expand its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business by utilizing the facility to strengthen its engineering capabilities.

2. Overview of the power generation facilities

The power generation plant will be constructed by the engineering section of Fuji Electric’s EPC business and operated by its wholly owned subsidiary, Fuji Green Power Co., Ltd. All of the electricity generated by the plant will be sold to Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) based on Japan’s feed-in tariff system.
