Fuel fabrication technology for nuclear power reactors
Fuji Electric fuel fabrication technology for nuclear power reactors handles radioactive materials such as plutonium. The equipment is stored in an airtight glove box to prevent powder dispersion and leakage of radioactive materials. The fuel pellets are manufactured by fully automatic remote operation at a speed of about 100,000 pellets per day.

The fuel handling system for the fast breeder reactor automatically operates the ex-vessel transfer machine remotely and safely, receives the new fuel assemblies and loads them into the nuclear power reactor, and then removes the spent fuel assemblies.

The High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) is a new-generation type of reactor that can supply heat of very high temperature of approximately 1000°C. The HTGR has the potential to expand nuclear heat utilization to various applications, such as high efficiency gas turbine power generation, hydrogen production, and process heat for chemical plants. Fuji Electric has been participating in the design, development and construction of the HTTR, Japan's first HTGR, and is now conducting research and development work on a commercial HTGR.

Fuji Electric is developing compact equipment that will effectively reduce the volume of nuclear waste, such as spent resin, by utilizing low-pressure oxygen plasma.

Development of decommissioning technologies
Fuji Electric is developing the technologies for a remote dismantling system for decommissioning nuclear power reactors in high level radioactive environments, for instance for cutting the reactor pressure vessel, moving pieces of the vessel using robot arms and segregating radioactive substances.
