Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (“Fuji Electric” or “the Company”) expresses its deepest condolences to those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. It is the Company’s sincere hope that the nation recovers as quickly as possible.

Fuji Electric has announced that the FP-100i fuel cell that it provided to the disaster headquarters of Miyagi Prefecture will be donated to Tohoku Fukushi University.

Tohoku Fukushi University will use city gas to generate electricity with the fuel cell, thereby providing 100 kilowatts of electricity to its elderly care facilities, which have been established on campus and operate on a 24-hour basis. In addition, the heat produced by the fuel cell during power generation will be used for hot-water supply equipment.

The city gas that will be used as fuel at the university is highly reliable medium-pressure city gas, the supply of which was not interrupted when the Great East Japan Earthquake struck the area. Consequently, by using the city gas, Tohoku Fukushi University can maintain a stable supply of power with the high degree of reliability required by its elderly care facilities. The FP-100i fuel cell is scheduled to begin operations at the university by the end of July.

With this donation of the FP-100i fuel cell, the total monetary value of Fuji Electric’s donation to relief and support efforts in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunamis is now approximately 200 million yen, including previously announced donations of 100 million yen along with other Fuji Electric products.
