Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.

Fuji Electric extends its heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and wishes for the quick recovery of disaster-affected areas.

Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. is cooperating in efforts to save electricity this summer, based on requests from the Japanese government and summer electricity-saving policies in regions where power is supplied by Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated, and Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. Accordingly, Fuji Electric is aiming for a reduction in electricity consumption of 25% or more at targeted business sites using the largest amount of electric power in those regions. Furthermore, the Company is actively implementing a wide array of measures to save electricity at all of its business sites across Japan. Fuji Electric’s electricity-saving measures are listed as follows:

Measures at targeted business sites

Rescheduling of a large number of weekday work shifts to nighttime, weekend and holiday shifts
Usage of existing and newly installed in-house power generators
Transfer of production to other factories located in and outside Japan
Introduction of energy monitoring systems
At targeted business sites, Fuji Electric is installing the F-MPC series of energy monitoring systems, manufactured by its subsidiary, Fuji Electric FA Components and Systems Co., Ltd. The system monitors the electric power usage of the business site as well as the combined total of other sites in real time, enabling the effective management of power consumption.

Measures at all business sites

Extension of the government-promoted “cool biz” campaign (which encourages employees to wear light summer clothing) period to May 21 through to October 31, compared to June 1 to September 30 in previous years
Switching off of unused lights and upgrade to high-efficiency lighting
Upgrade of air conditioning to high-efficiency equipment, and usage in accordance to energy-saving measures
Strict use of energy-saving settings for computers
Establishment of common days off during the summer in two-day blocks set for each business site
Wide use of in-house posters to promote energy saving
Appeals to save energy in company magazines
