Communications with Regional Communities

Community Engagement through Sports

Junior escorts with players

Fuji Electric has been a sponsor of the J-League Soccer Club JEF United Ichihara Chiba since 2007. We sponsor events where Ichihara and Chiba elementary school children and the physically challenged are invited to the games or can meet with the players, to enliven the community.

We held Fuji Electric Match Day-a day when matches are branded with our advertising banner-in July 2011, and hosted 600 elementary school and physically challenged children from Ichihara and Chiba, as well as 49 members of families from the city of Asahi, which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake.

We also sponsored the Togenkyo Marathon, which is held every April in the Southern Alps of Yamanashi Prefecture.

Regional Contribution through Nursing Care

Interaction with children

Fuji Electric's affiliate, Fuji Lifecare Net, operates nursing facilities in the vicinity of Fuji Electric's five major business bases across Japan. In addition to the elderly nursing care facility at the Tokyo base in the city of Hino, we run a child daycare center. In consideration of the long wait times to get children into daycare, in 2004 we set up this center at the request of local authorities as a registered child daycare center in Tokyo, and unlike a certified daycare center can operate until 8p.m.

As demand for child daycare in this region is high, the facility in Hino has been full since the time it opened. We responded to this demand by expanding its prescribed capacity from 80 to 120, well above the original system limits. Currently, this center is set up with the child daycare facility on the first floor and the elderly nursing facility on the second, and we believe that the interaction between the daytime nursing care users and the children in daycare brings cheer to the nursing care users and helps children learn good manners.

Communication with Communities through Factory festivals

The Fuji Electric See It All Tour at the Tokyo Factory Festival

Fuji Electric holds factory festivals and other events to foster communications among neighboring communities, employees and their families. The Tokyo factory held its Fuji Electric Community Festival 2010. As last year, we held the Fuji Electric See It All Tour and Workmanship Classroom, in which many families participated. We also held new events, such as Rhonrad Experience and the Pastel Art Corner. Some 4,000 visitors, including everyone from our neighboring communities, enjoyed the festival.

Supporting Contribution Activities

Support for charity works

Since FY2004, Fuji Electric Philippines has carried out Fe Share an Hour activities, which are based on the theme of "sharing an hour's happiness."

In FY2010, employees each gave the equivalent of one hour of wages as cash or clothing to women's and children's shelters, support groups for terminally ill cancer patients, shelters for street children, and similar groups. Also, employees taught the women and children how to make steam cakes, to help them toward self-sufficiency. Our continuous efforts were honored by the Philippine Labor Ministry, which awarded us the Social Contribution Superiority Prize.

The Fuji Electric Labor Union's Tokyo District has sponsored the ring-tab collection drive since 2007, collecting 500 kg of pull-tabs to date. In February 2011, these were traded for wheelchairs and were donated to Fuji Lifecare Net, which is developing our nursing care business. We also conducted donation activities in every region, such as the Kawasaki factory's donation of sports equipment to local elementary schools (such as vaulting horses and basketball rings).

Support for Regional Disaster Prevention and Traffic Safety

Cooperation in local disaster and traffic safety

Each of our factories, such as the Suzuka factory and Chichibu Fuji, has its own early fire response and disaster prevention team, and when a fire occurs locally we work with community fire departments.

In addition, GE Fuji Meter employees participate in the Young Driver Club, to increase driver safety awareness. The Tokyo factory promotes local traffic safety through regional safety patrols and by dispatching personnel as counselors in bicycle safety classes.
