There has been an accelerating trend to suppress the usage of carbon dioxide (CO2) generating energy sources as a means of preventing worldwide global warming.
Against this backdrop, a great change has occurred in the environment surrounding 3-phase induction motors (hereinafter "motors") since they occupy approximately 40 to 50% of the world's energy consumption. There is currently a rapid move taking place in many countries toward the adoption of regulation-compliant high-efficiency motors that meet national standards such as MEPS*1.

China has also been enforcing amendments to standards, which includes a change from [GB18613-2006: Grade GB2*2 (equivalent to IE2*2)], enacted on July 1, 2011, to [GB18613-2012: Grade GB3 (IE2*2)], newly enacted on September 1, 2012.
In other words, as of September 1, 2012, exporters of single unit motors and motors built into machinery and facilities need to be very careful because only motors that have acquired "GB18613-2012: Grade GB3" certification can clear customs and be sold in China.
