Upgrading product quality and environmental management systems to provide globally trusted products

Efforts under Our Quality Management System

To upgrade our quality management system, our sales division, manufacturing sites, and affiliated companies in the semiconductor device business worked together to acquire QS-9000, an internationally recognized quality standard established by U.S. automakers, and was certified in November 2001. We were highly rated by an international certification body for our continuous efforts to reduce variations in our manufacturing process and design management. We are also diligently at work strengthening our quality management system in our storage device and imaging device businesses, replacing the previously acquired ISO 9001:1994 with ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Efforts under Our Environmental Management System

Under the Basic Policies of the Fuji Electric Group on Environmental Protection, Fuji Electric Device Technology is working to reduce the environmental burden of its business activities and products. To this end, we established an environmental management system based on ISO 14001 to share information on environmental issues and respond to them quickly. Our workforce is also keenly aware of environmental concerns, with each and every employee actively taking part in environmental conservation activities.

Basic Policies of the Fuji Electric Group on Environmental Protection

The Fuji Electric Group is keenly aware of our social responsibilities as a good corporate citizen and we regard efforts to protect the global environment as one of our most important management tasks. We will strive to achieve a sustainable, recycling-based society in compliance with the following basic policies.

  1. Offering products and technologies that contribute to global environmental protection
  2. Reduction of environmental burden through the product life cycle
  3. Reduction of environmental burden in business activities
  4. Compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and standards
  5. Establishment and continuous improvement of environmental management systems
  6. Raising employees' awareness of environmental issues and contributing to society
  7. Promotion of communication on our environmental activities

Ending the Use of Hazardous Substances

Six substances, namely, lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium, PBB, and PBDE, will be banned from use in electrical equipment and electronic products sold in the EU starting in July 2006. The Fuji Electric Group is taking measures to end its use of these six substances by the end of fiscal 2004.

Promoting Green Procurement

In accordance with the Green Procurement Guidelines, the Fuji Electric Group is examining its suppliers through an environmental conservation activity survey and a survey on chemical substances contained in parts and materials to be procured. This is just one of our efforts to provide customers with the worryfree, environmentally conscious products that they need.
