Present Status and Prospects for Social Information Systems
Toshiharu Sasamoto
Infrastructure supporting the basis of society mainly for urban areas is
here called social systems. This paper reviews the noticeable trends
and prospects for social systems with regard to information, energy, and
environment which hold key positions among social systems. Fuji
Electric's concept for social information systems and offered
systems are described in the above.
Traffic Volume Monitoring Systems Using Image Processing Technology
Hitomi Kawakami, Yukiyoshi Sakakibara, Hideaki Uekusa
In traffic volume monitoring systems using image processing technology,
there is a tunnel type or a surface road type according to locations and
uses. A tunnel is equipped with industrial television (ITV) cameras
with a selective monitoring image processor, and the number of vehicles,
vehicle speed, abnormal driving, fallen things, and parking or standing
vehicles are detected by selectively inputting ITV cameras. A surface
road is equipped with a constant monitoring image processor to fully
meet changes in sunshine and weather, and the number of vehicles,
vehicle speed, occupancy, and headway are measured. This paper outlines
these systems and application examples.
Jet Fans for the Kounan-Himawari Tunnel of Yokohama-city
Hiroshi Yamamoto, Masamitsu Fujisaki, Masahiko Toyoda
Jet fans for a tunnel are provided to improve the visual environment of
vehicles in the tunnel as well as drivers' environment and also
to perform appropriate ventilation for a fire or a traffic jam in the
tunnel. Fuji Electric has supplied power supply systems, remote
monitoring and control systems, electrostatic precipitator systems, and
sensors for road tunnel facilities. This paper introduces the
high-efficiency, low-noise jet fans supplied to the Kounan-Himawari
Tunnel of Yokohama-city.
Control System for the Kanazawa Office of Japan Highway Public Corporation
Yukiyoshi Sakakibara, Hisashi Fukuda, Shinichi Sakaguchi
This system is a remote monitoring and control system introduced to the
Kanazawa Control Office to rationalize and reduce labor at control work
in the facilities founded on the Hokuriku and Tokai-hokuriku Expressways
in Fukui, Ishikawa, and Toyama Prefectures. This paper describes the
features of configurations and functions. (1) a wide area network
system using LAN and communication lines, (2) total design for the
facility control room with large displays and others, (3) a client
server system using WindowsNT and UNIX, (4) advanced facility control
functions combined with an operation support function.
Facility Information System "SOINS-IIS"
Seiji Shimaoka, Masayuki Watanabe, Yutaka Mizuno
As industry has been oriented toward software, service, and information,
office space has become the center of activities. Similarly in facility
management, not conventional facility management systems with plant
management as the core, but facility management systems with information
service and management support functions for users added are desired.
To meet these needs, Fuji Electric has developed the facility
information system "SOINS-IIS" which is a management
support system incorporating information and service-oriented functions.
The features are described with examples supplied to Yokosuka Research
Park (YRP) Center Ichibankan and NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc.
R&D Center.
Cashless Systems for Amusement Facilities
Hideto Shirai, Keizo Mano, Takayoshi Masukura
Social needs are oriented toward amusement and health, and many
amusement facilities are under construction at various places,
accompanied by the growing necessity of cashless operation in the
facilities. Fuji Electric made the most of its own technologies and
know-how, such as gates and ticket vendors, and has systematized them
into cashless systems to users' satisfaction. This paper gives
two examples for the Tsurumi-Ryokuchi Pool and Toyonaka-Itami Clean
Sports Land.
Present Status and Technical Trends of Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs)
Seiji Sadayoshi, Kazuyoshi Hosaka, Takami Kagotani
Uninterruptible power systems (UPSs), which have continued reduction in
size, steadily increase the number of working units and are
indispensable to the safety of the information-oriented society. Fuji
Electric has developed UPSs on the basis of its acknowledged UPS and
high-frequency PWM technologies using up-to-date power and control
devices, resulting in a leading manufacturer in the industry. The paper
predicts that in response to market needs, UPSs will be diversified in
all aspects such as basic methods, uses, locations, operating systems,
control systems, and storage battery devices.
Recent Mini Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs)
Hidetaka Kidoguchi, Yoshihiro Ishikawa, Makoto Yatsu
With the advance of power electronics, various applications have come
into use in various fields. High frequency application based on
advanced semiconductors has reduced the size of insulation transformers
and filter circuits. On the other hand, rapidly advanced circuit
technology has given birth to many power conversion circuits such as
high-frequency insulation, switch-mode rectifier (SMR) circuits, and
soft switching circuits. This paper describes recent trends of Fuji
Electric's mini UPSs, including measures for networks such as
simple network management protocol (SNMP) and network adapters.
New Type Medium Capacity Uninterruptible Power Systems "UPS650 Series"
Jun Hirose, Terumasa Terada, Hiroshi Shiga
In the market of medium capacity uninterruptible power systems (UPSs),
increase in demand is expected, but there is severe distinction of
performance and functions. In this situation, the UPS650-C/1 and C/3
series have realized overwhelming reduction in size and weight with new
high-frequency power conversion technology. The SMR converter adopted
in the rectifier portion is an insulation means using a high-frequency
transformer, which has a fifteenth of the volume and a twentieth of the
mass of that using a conventional insulation transformer. This paper
describes the features, configuration, and fundamental technologies of
these series.
Large Capacity Uninterruptible Powre Systems "UPS600 Series"
Yasushi Motoki, Masahiro Teraguchi, Ikuo Katayama
Demand for uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) has a tendency toward
poles, small and large capacities. Requirements for large capacity UPSs
are small size, light weight, low noise, reduction in input capacitance
and input harmonic current, and improvement of output voltage to a
nonlinear load, not to mention high reliability. Fuji Electric took the
lead in the industry in supplying all-IGBT UPSs. This paper outlines
the improved large capacity UPS recently marketed, citing examples of
its application systems.
Application Technology of Bidirectional Inverters to Electric Energy Storage System
Masanobu Fujikura, Kazuki Matsunaga
Active efforts are made to introduce clean energy systems against global
warming and to develop electric energy storage technologies to meet
power demand at peak hours. Considering that a bidirectional inverter
capable of charging and discharging with one power converter is suitable
to electric energy storage system, Fuji Electric has developed and
supplied an inverter for Na-S batteries. This paper outlines the
specifications, features, circuitry, and test data of the inverter.
