Release of Next-Generation Synchronous Drive Systems

Combining Synchronous Motors and Dedicated Inverters to
Realize Highly Efficient Operations

Fuji Electric Holdings Co., Ltd. announces that Fuji Electric Systems Co., Ltd., a core operating company of Fuji Electric Holdings, has simultaneously released 106 types of motors and 33 types of dedicated drive inverters that can be assembled into customized drive systems. The motors include two series of new synchronous motors with permanent magnet rotors: the GNB series of standard sensor-less motors with outputs ranging from 5.5 to 315 kW, and the GNF series of standard sensor motors with outputs ranging from 11 to 300 kW. Additionally, the GNS series of high-efficiency sensor-less synchronous motors offer outputs ranging from 11 to 200 kW. 33 types of GX series synchronous motor dedicated drive inverters have also been released for exclusive use with the motors.

1. Purpose of the product release

Efforts to curb global warming have been in full swing in countries around the world in recent years, with national and local governments along with private corporations broadening their activities to reduce energy consumption. Regulations covering motors for fans, pumps, industrial machinery and factory equipment are rapidly being revised, and stipulate better efficiency. This has created demand for drive systems that combine motors operating at highly efficient levels with control inverters. To meet the new regulations and to respond to customer demand for low energy use, Fuji Electric Systems is conducting the large-scale release of its proprietary next-generation synchronous drive systems that integrate synchronous motors and dedicated drive inverters. With the wide range of products, Fuji Electric is dedicated to helping its customers consume less energy in the future.

2. Features of the new products
(1) The world’s highest level of efficiency
The standard sensor-less and sensor synchronous motors meet IE3 standards of premium efficiency, and the high-efficiency sensor-less synchronous motors meet IE4 standards of super-premium efficiency. The IE3 and IE4 standards are part of the International Electrotechnical Commission’s IEC 60034-30 international standards for efficiency.
(2) Compact size and lightweight
The standard sensor-less and sensor synchronous motors have an average of 35% less capacity and 40% less weight compared to Fuji Electric’s induction motors.
(3) Easy replacement
The high-efficiency sensor-less synchronous motors can replace currently installed induction motors with ease, without alterations to the existing system layout.
3. Specifications of each product series
(1) Standard sensor-less synchronous motors:
42 self-standing-type models rated at 1,800 min-1 and ranging from 5.5 to 315 kW output
(2) Standard sensor synchronous motors:
36 self-standing-type models rated at 1,500 min-1 and ranging from 11 to 300 kW output (5.5 and 7.5 kW output models will be released in the near future)
(3) High-efficiency sensor-less synchronous motors:
28 self-standing-type models rated at 1,800 min-1 and ranging from 11 to 200 kW output
(4) Synchronous motor dedicated drive inverters:
29 LD-spec models ranging from 5.5 to 220 kW output, and 33 HD-spec models ranging from 5.5 to 315 kW output
4. Examples of main applications

The drive systems can be used for fans, pumps, compressors, industrial machinery such as presses and molds, and factory equipment.

5. Standard prices according to type of product
(1) Examples of prices for the standard sensor-less motors are 242,000 yen for the 15 kW model and 600,000 yen for the 37 kW model.
(2) Examples of prices for the synchronous motor dedicated drive invertors are 473,000 yen for the 15 kW model and 1,528,000 yen for the 37 kW model.
